Haddonfield played a special role in the history of dinosaur discovery. In 1858 the first nearly complete dinosaur skeleton was excavated from a marl pit in town, establishing Haddonfield as one of the world’s most significant paleontology sites. Haddonfield is also known for its abundance of lawyers. The town is a major legal center for the southern half of the state and is home to more than 390 attorneys.

Haddonfield has a strong sense of its history and identity. The town is very dedicated to historic preservation. The main street—Kings Highway—was originally a wagon trail named in honor of the British monarchs who ruled the area. Haddonfield also played a part in the American Revolution and the Quaker cemetery hold remains of British soldiers who died in battle more than 200 years ago. There are frequent walking tours and seasonal open-house programs featuring the town’s historic, opulent mansions.

The community hosts a variety of popular annual events for the enjoyment of residents. Festivities include Easter Bunny Hops, Mayfest, a Fourth of July parade, antique auto shows, a juried craft fair, fall festivals, and First Night (New Years Eve) celebrations.

Students have a variety of choices for post-secondary education. Rutgers University at Camden, Temple University, LaSalle University, University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Camden County College and the Art Institute of Philadelphia are all within about 10 miles of Haddonfield.
